ABB Robot Pick-and-Place Cell

Simulated and programmed a robotic pick-and-place cell with conveyor synchronisation in RobotStudio.

Overview

A six-axis robot cell that picks parts from a moving conveyor, orients them and places them into trays, with safety-fenced access and a PLC handshake.

Problem

Manual part transfer limited cycle time and introduced ergonomic strain and placement errors.

Solution

Built a RobotStudio simulation of the cell, defined tool centre points and work objects, wrote RAPID routines for pick, place and error recovery, and defined the PLC-robot signal interface.

Engineering process

Cell layout and reach study, offline programming, collision checking, signal mapping to the PLC, then validation of cycle time and recovery scenarios.

Results

Validated cycle time in simulation and a repeatable placement routine with defined error-recovery states.
