DC Motor Speed Control with Simulink
Modelled and tuned a PID speed controller for a DC motor, validated against a physical rig.
Overview
A control-systems study modelling a DC motor plant, designing a PID controller and comparing simulated response with a laboratory rig.
Problem
Open-loop motor speed drifted under varying load, making the process unrepeatable.
Solution
Derived the plant transfer function, designed and tuned a PID loop in Simulink, then validated step response and disturbance rejection on hardware.
Engineering process
System identification, model building, controller tuning, simulation, hardware validation and documentation.
Results
Stable closed-loop response with reduced overshoot and settling time compared with the untuned loop.
